Job Title: Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) Technologist

Schedule: Three 12 hour shifts available 11am-11pm, if desired.

Salary Range: $50-56/hr

Summary:

At East River Medical Imaging, our mission is to consistently provide the highest quality and availability of diagnostic imaging with compassion and comfort for our patients. Each of our physicians is certified by the American Board of Radiology. Together, they represent all areas of sub-specialty medical imaging, including cross-sectional, musculoskeletal, oncologic and neuroradiology. Operates magnetic resonance imaging equipment to produce cross-sectional images (photographs) of patient's body for diagnostic purposes by performing the following duties.

Duties

  • Interviews patient to explain magnetic resonance imaging procedures and request removal of metal objects which are hazardous to patient and equipment when magnet is activated.
  • Positions patient on examining table and places specified coil (receiver) such as head coil or knee coil, close to area of interest, following protocols requested by Radiologist.
  • Demonstrates use of microphone that allows patient and technologist to communicate during examination.
  • Enters data such as patient history, anatomical area to be scanned, orientation specified, and position of entry into aperture of magnetic resonance imaging equipment (head or feet first), into computer.
  • Keys commands to specify scan sequences, and adjust transmitters and receivers, into computer.
  • Observes patient through window of control room to monitor patient safety and comfort.
  • Views images of area being scanned on display screen to ensure quality of pictures.
  • Proficient in MRI Safety, knowledge of MR Zones.
  • Maintains patient care, comfort and safety during the exam.
  • Maintains technical competency through continued education and participation in training programs.
  • Under guidance and approval of site Radiologist, administers contrast agents according to site-specific protocols.
  • Cooperates with facility healthcare personnel and complies with facility policies and procedures.
  • Maintains current licensure to Practice in all states in which services are performed.
  • Performs equipment quality checks and troubleshoots problems. Calls for service and notifies all pertinent team members.
  • Maintains a clean environment inside and outside of the scanner.
  • Follows quality assurance guidelines and maintains patient confidentiality.
  • Cooperates with facility healthcare professionals and complies with facility policies/procedures and all safety policies and regulations.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.

Computer Skills:

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of MS Suite, GE RIS-IC, AMBRA and PACs

Qualifications:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Education/Experience:
Associate's degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or six months to one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Math Ability:
Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

Computer Skills:
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of MS Office word processing software.

Certificates and Licenses:
MRI specialty training certification (ARRT-MR), NYS RT License with Injection, active BLS training.

All technologists performing MRI examinations must meet the minimum criteria listed below:

  • ARRT registered as an MR technologist
  • New York State Registered Technologist with Injection
  • Active BLS training

Continuing Education for Registered technologists

  • In compliance with the ARRT CE requirements for the imaging modality in which they perform services
  • CE includes credits pertinent to the technologist’s ACR accredited clinical practice
  • State licensed technologists
  • 4 hours of CE every 2 years
  • CE is relevant to imaging and the radiologic sciences, patient care
  • CE includes credits pertinent to the technologist’s ACR accredited clinical practice

Supervisory Responsibilities:
